Pune: Ilahi Sheikh, family attack Hindu land owners, damage Hanuman idol after court-ordered land reclamation, video viral

On Friday, May 23, Ilahi Sheikh, a resident of Dhanori in Pune, and his family allegedly launched an attack on a Hindu family, the video of which has been making rounds on social media. As per the information exclusively obtained by Newsbharati, Sheikh and his family had illegally occupied the land belonging to the Hindu family and were refusing to leave the site despite the court orders.

On May 8, 2026, the Pune court issued orders directing that possession of the land be restored to its rightful Hindu owner. After this, tensions reportedly escalated at the site. It is alleged that Ilahi Sheikh, accompanied by several burqa-clad women, confronted and attacked the Hindu family when they attempted to reclaim the property.
 

During the incident, the idol of Bajrang Bali was also desecrated, pepper spray was reportedly thrown into the eyes of the Hindu family members, abuses were hurled, and the Hindu family was forced to flee from their own land amid fear and chaos.
 
 

Newsbharati obtained the document exclusively, in which the court ordered protection for the complainant (Hindu family). It also stated that "agents or supporters of the defendants are not allowed to interfere with the plaintiff’s peaceful possession of the property."

As per the document, Sheikh and his family had issued death threats to the Hindu family and also threatened the demolition of the shed built on it on June 8, 2025. According to the complainant, a similar incident was reported on June 14, 2025, following which the complaint was filed by the Hindu family at Vishrantwadi Police Station.
 

The video of the incident is making rounds on social media, with netizens demanding stricter punishment against Sheikh and his family. Further updates in the case are underway.
