On Monday 4th May: In a disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns over child safety in private coaching centers, a 7-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her computer teacher in the Pune Camp area.
The young girl attended a private computer class where the teacher recorded the victim on his mobile phone and reportedly pressured her to fulfil his demands. When the girl refused, the teacher's behavior became aggressively suspicious.
The matter came to light when the girl's mother noticed her daughter's confusion and distress. After a private conversation, the mother discovered the teacher’s inappropriate conduct and took immediate action by approaching the police.
A formal complaint has been registered at the Lashkar Police Station. The case is being investigated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajlakshmi Shivane confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody and sent to an Observation Home. To support the young victim, authorities have arranged for professional counseling sessions to help her process the trauma.
This incident follows a string of horrific crimes against children in the Pune district. The recent case of
rape-murder case that occurred in Nasrapur(Bhor) , and on May 1, a 3-year-old boy in the pune was allegedly raped and
murdered, with his body found hidden inside a suitcase.
The backlog of such cases remains a major hurdle for the justice system. Currently, there are 4,660 cases pending in the Pune District and Sessions Court alone, highlighting the urgent need for faster legal proceedings in crimes against minors.
DCP Shivane issued a strong advisory to the public, emphasizing that child protection is a collective responsibility.There must be strong and open communication between parents and children. Vigilance is a collective duty. We must speak up, watch out for our neighbors, and report any suspicious behavior immediately to protect our children.
Authorities are urging parents to stay alert and encourage their children to share any discomfort they feel around adults, whether in schools, tuition classes, or neighborhoods.
