Maharashtra Dy CM Sunetra Pawar, wife of late former Dy state CM Ajit Pawar, secured a landmark victory in the Baramati Assembly by-election, winning by a record margin of 2.18 lakh votes and setting a new benchmark at the national level. Her margin surpasses the previous national record of approximately 2.14 lakh votes, making it the highest-ever victory margin not only in Baramati but across the country.

The by-election was necessitated following the untimely demise of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash earlier this year. The massive mandate is widely being viewed as an emotional endorsement from voters and a tribute to his legacy in the constituency. In her post-victory statement, Sunetra Pawar expressed gratitude to the people of Baramati, calling the result a reflection of the deep trust and affection they held for Ajit Pawar. She described the win as a “grateful tribute” to him.

The contest remained largely one-sided, with no formidable opposition candidate. Sunetra Pawar maintained a commanding lead throughout all counting rounds, ultimately exceeding expectations and comfortably crossing the previously anticipated “magic figure” of 1.65 lakh votes.

Speaking on X (formerly Twitter), Karjat-Jamkhed MLA Rohit Pawar of Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) congratulated Sunetra Pawar. “Heartiest congratulations to Sunetra Kaki on being elected from the Baramati Assembly constituency with a record margin of 2.18 lakh votes, breaking the previous national record of 2.14 lakh votes! As expected, this victory is a testament to the love the people of Baramati have for Ajit Dada and is a grateful tribute paid to him. Sincere thanks to all the voters of Baramati for this massive victory!" he said.

Baramati has long remained a bastion of the Pawar family. Ajit Pawar himself held the previous record in the constituency, securing a victory margin of over 1.65 lakh votes in 2019. Sunetra Pawar has now surpassed that figure by a significant distance, further cementing the family’s political dominance in the region.

The outcome is likely to carry substantial implications for Maharashtra politics, sending a clear message about the enduring influence of the Pawar family and the depth of public support they command in Baramati. With this emphatic mandate, Sunetra Pawar has not only retained the seat but also etched her name in the record books with one of the largest electoral victories in the country.
