On Monday, May 4th, clashes broke out near a Trinamool Congress camp during the counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections, prompting police and central forces to resort to a lathi charge to bring the situation under control. The incident happened in Asansol, and no injuries were reported, but several chairs and motorbikes were damaged, and the TMC political camp was also vandalized. As per the initial updates, this is after a minor scuffle broke out near the counting centre at Asansol Engineering College between TMC goons & BJP Karyakartas. The TMC is believed to have initiated the scuffle, after which the enraged BJP workers chose not to keep quiet. 

The video of the incident is making rounds on social media, in which several unidentified individuals can be seen vandalizing the TMC political camp. Early counting trends showed the BJP surging ahead with leads in over 192 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark. The party also posted strong performances in constituencies like Asansol Dakshin and Asansol Uttar, triggering mixed reactions across social media.
 
West Bengal has long witnessed incidents of poll-related violence, and in light of similar disturbances reported from other areas, security has been tightened across the state.
