On Thursday, May 7th, a new incident of post-poll violence emerged in Shibpur's Chaurabasti area of Howrah, following the BJP's landslide victory, securing 206 seats to end 15 years of Trinamool Congress rule in West Bengal. Eyewitnesses saw 12-15
crude bombs thrown and seven to eight gunshots near BJP Minority Morcha district president Sikandar Khan's home, with the BJP blaming TMC strongman Shamim Ahmed.
Over 10 BJP workers were reportedly hurt, though police confirmed one injury; heavy forces were deployed, restrictions imposed, and three detained as tensions simmered statewide with prior deaths from unrest.
Visuals and reports emerging from the area showed streets in Shibpur strewn with bricks, plastic waste, and other debris after violent clashes between BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers.
Taking cognizance of the event, Howrah City Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi said, "A political clash had taken place in Shivpur's Chaurabasti area, resulting in one injury. Upon receiving information about the incident, police forces immediately reached the scene and brought the situation under control. All individuals involved in this incident will be arrested as soon as possible."

The BJP leaders and local party workers, meanwhile,
alleged that the violence erupted after alleged TMC-backed miscreants, led by Shamim Ahmed alias Bore, the husband of a TMC councillor and said to be close to a local strongman, allegedly hurled crude bombs and opened fire near the residence of BJP Minority Cell president Sikandar Khan and other BJP supporters. Several BJP workers were reportedly injured in the attack.
In the aftermath of the incident, BJP workers assembled outside the Shibpur police station, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. They alleged that the attack was intended to “create fear” following the party’s sweeping victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
As per the reports, the violence was initiated by the TMC goons against the BJP workers after the latter celebrated the victory of winning the elections in the state of West Bengal. Howrah BJP President Gouranga Bhattacharya said, “Some Muslim TMC members came to the house of Sikandar Khan, the president of the district BJP minority morcha, and bombed his house and even fired shots… They created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation here. Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek are unable to digest their loss… Now, they are working according to their strategy, using Muslims as a front to attack Hindus and Muslims who chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Jai Shri Ram’… they should be arrested… 4-5 of our people have been injured… They are admitted to Howrah Hospital… Everyone will be held accountable for their actions. The administration will take action…”
It is important to note that several BJP leaders have been attacked and also killed by TMC workers for celebrating the BJP's victory in the state of West Bengal. On May 7, BJP worker Rohit Roy, alias Chintu,
suffered a bullet injury to the abdomen allegedly by TMC-sheltered miscreants in the Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas district. The same day, the personal assistant of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was shot dead in Madhyamgram.
On May 6th, TMC leader Krishna Das and a group of his supporters could be seen
carrying swords and marching through the Jalpaiguri area following the election outcome. During this time, the TMC leader also attacked BJP workers who were on their way to the Bodaganj Temple to offer prayers.
A BJP worker, identified as Madhu Mandal, was
beaten to death during a victory procession in the Rajarhat–New Town area. A group of TMC workers killed the victim for celebrating the BJP's win. In another similar incident reported on May 5, a BJP worker identified as Jadav Bar was
lynched to death by a group of people affiliated with the Trinamool Congress while he was on his way home in Udaynarayanpur in West Bengal's Howrah district. As reported earlier by Newsbharati, the BJP worker was celebrating the party's win with other party cadres as trends from the Election Commission suggested that the BJP was on its way to wrest power from the TMC.
