An RSS office in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, was targeted with petrol bombs in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17. CCTV footage that has since circulated online shows two individuals hurling suspected incendiary devices at the office, located in the Nivaranpur area under the Chutia police station jurisdiction, around midnight.

Snigdha Ranjan, who heads media coordination for the RSS in Ranchi, confirmed that petrol bombs were thrown at the premises. Police, however, have refrained from concluding pending a formal investigation. Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan told PTI that fragments of two glass bottles were recovered from the scene, and that a Forensic Science Laboratory team had been summoned to determine the contents.

He cautioned against premature assumptions about whether the bottles contained petrol, stating that findings would only be confirmed after the forensic examination. Authorities added that efforts to identify the perpetrators were actively underway. Later on Wednesday, a team from the National Investigation Agency also visited the site.

The incident drew sharp political reactions. Union Minister Sanjay Seth termed it a "serious conspiracy" designed to disturb peace in the state capital, arguing that the use of petrol, a highly inflammable substance, pointed to a deliberate attempt to incite unrest in Ranchi. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla echoed these concerns, linking the attack to what he described as a deteriorating law-and-order situation in Jharkhand under the JMM-Congress government.

He stated that the assault was part of a broader, premeditated plot, and connected it to what he characterised as increasingly hostile rhetoric directed at the RSS in recent times. "We have seen the kind of vitriolic statements being made against the RSS by certain people recently, and then this attack happens," he said, calling for a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to account.
