As shared by his family, Virag ji passed away due to a heart attack on the morning of June 18. He leaves behind his wife and daughter.
For decades, Viragji remained one of the most respected voices in nationalist thought. His association with NewsBharati, in both English and Marathi, was marked by insightful analysis, meticulous research, and an unwavering commitment to presenting India's civilisational perspective. Beyond NewsBharati, he enriched several intellectual platforms, including Hindupedia, where his articles examined politics, culture, religion and national security with remarkable depth and clarity. More than five hundred articles published across newspapers, journals and digital platforms stand testimony to his extraordinary contribution to public discourse.

Born in Nagpur in 1952, Pachpore combined academic excellence with grassroots experience. After completing postgraduate studies in Agricultural Geography and Mass Communication, he served as a Vivekananda Kendra activist in Arunachal Pradesh and later as Regional Organising Secretary of Vidya Bharati in North-East India. These formative years gave him an intimate understanding of India's diverse social and cultural landscape, particularly the tribal societies of the North-East.
His journalistic career began with The Sentinel in Guwahati before he joined The Hitavada in Nagpur, where he served in several editorial roles, including Editor of the Sunday Despatch and later of its Raipur and Jabalpur editions. Throughout his career, he upheld the highest standards of factual, thoughtful and principled journalism.
As an author, Viragji made enduring contributions through well-researched books such as The Indian Church, Jesus, Christianity and Swami Vivekananda, Liberation Theology, Indian Muslims and National Perspective, and Deoras Parva. His writings on Christian missionary activity, inter-faith dialogue and national integration reflected rigorous scholarship while encouraging informed debate rather than polemics. As President of the International Centre for Cultural Studies, he also worked tirelessly to strengthen dialogue among diverse faith communities and participated in numerous national and international conferences.

Beyond journalism and scholarship, Virag Pachpore devoted considerable time to initiatives promoting national integration. Through his long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later his work with the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, where he served in a senior leadership role, he encouraged intercommunity dialogue and participated in efforts to foster greater trust and understanding. His work in this sphere complemented his writings on inter-faith relations, Indian Muslims and civilisational issues, reflecting his lifelong commitment to national cohesion.
Despite his vast scholarship and public stature, Viragji remained humble, accessible and deeply committed to mentoring younger journalists and writers. His command over Marathi, Hindi, English, Bangla and Assamese reflected both his intellectual curiosity and his lifelong engagement with India's cultural diversity.
The NewsBharati family has lost not merely a valued contributor but a guiding light whose pen consistently served the nation. His writings will remain an enduring source of knowledge and inspiration for all those committed to objective journalism rooted in India's civilisational ethos.
