A departmental inquiry has been initiated against a police officer in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, after footage of him performing sword stunts during a Muharram procession, while in uniform, spread rapidly across social media. The officer in question is Sub-Inspector Mustakim Khan, who had been
deployed for law-and-order duties during the Muharram Tazia procession in the Kanti police station jurisdiction.
The video, roughly half a minute in length, shows the uniformed officer
brandishing a sword and performing combat-style moves in the middle of a large crowd. The video is making the rounds on social media. Several social media posts further noted that the officer had abandoned his assigned post, carried out the display while still armed with his service revolver, and raised religious slogans during the event.
"During the Muharram procession in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on-duty Bihar Police Inspector Mustaqeem Khan performed sword stunts. The police captain issued a show-cause notice to the inspector and placed him on the line. After the #viralvideo went viral, the Bihar Police took action, considering this act a violation of the police conduct rules," one of the users said.
"Uniformed policeman served a show cause notice for brandishing a sword during the Muharram procession," another added.
Acting on the viral footage, Muzaffarpur's Senior Superintendent of Police, Kantesh Kumar Mishra, issued a show-cause notice to Sub-Inspector Khan and ordered him to report to the police lines. A formal departmental inquiry has since been set in motion. Authorities have indicated that disciplinary measures will follow if the investigation confirms that the officer breached the police code of conduct or acted in an undisciplined manner while on duty.
The incident has sparked considerable debate online, with a section of users calling for strict action against the officer, while others have urged that conclusions be withheld until a fair inquiry is completed. The investigation remains ongoing, and further action is expected once the findings are presented.
