A routine verification of identity documents in Chikkaballapur district has
resulted in the cancellation of a ration card and voter ID cards belonging to two Pakistani nationals, bringing to light how documents meant exclusively for eligible Indian citizens were allegedly secured by concealing crucial information.
The Chikkaballapur deputy commissioner
ordered the cancellation of the ration card and Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) held by Farah Naz and her son, Mohammed Fardeen, after it emerged that both continued to hold Pakistani nationality. Acting on a complaint lodged by the Bagepalli tahsildar, the two have since been arrested.
Chikkaballapur Superintendent of police Kushal Chousky said that police had received reliable information that the mother-son duo, residents of Dasaiahgari Palli village in Bagepalli taluk, had managed to obtain a ration card and voter ID despite not being eligible for them. Investigation revealed that Mohammed Ayub Khan, a native of Bagepalli, had married Farah Naz, a Pakistani national, while employed in the UAE. The couple has four children together, Ayub Khan, and three of the children hold Indian citizenship, while Mohammed Fardeen, born in Pakistan, retains Pakistani nationality like his mother.
Following inquiries by the police, the district administration reviewed the relevant records and determined that the ration card had been secured by withholding material facts about nationality. Consequently, the deputy commissioner ordered its cancellation, while the concerned authority revoked the EPICs issued to both individuals.
Based on the complaint filed by the tahsildar, police have registered a case against Farah Naz and Mohammed Fardeen under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Foreigners Act, and the Representation of the People Act. The investigation is currently underway.
