Mangaluru Police have intensified their drive against suspected illegal immigration, detaining 11 more individuals believed to be Bangladeshi nationals from two locations under the Urva Police Station limits on Sunday.

According to police, the detainees were allegedly employed at construction sites in the city. Their identities, nationality and immigration status are currently being verified.

With the latest operation, the number of suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants detained in Mangaluru over the past few days has increased to 19. Earlier on Friday, police had detained eight suspected migrants from the Mukka area during a similar enforcement drive.

As part of the investigation, police have also registered a case against a labour contractor from West Bengal for allegedly facilitating employment for the detained individuals. Investigators suspect that the contractor placed the migrants at construction sites alongside Indian workers.

Officials said authorities are examining documents recovered from the detainees and are working to establish whether they entered the country illegally. Police are also probing a possible network involved in bringing undocumented migrants to Mangaluru and arranging jobs for them in the region.

The crackdown is part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to identify illegal immigrants and take action against individuals accused of providing shelter, transport or employment to undocumented foreign nationals.

Police said further investigations are underway and additional action may follow based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
