In a renewed bid to eliminate institutional corruption, the Tamil Nadu government has
issued a strict directive to all public offices, boards, and state-run corporations to prominently display bilingual anti-corruption notice boards. The mandatory boards will carry an explicit anti-bribery slogan alongside direct contact channels, including a dedicated WhatsApp number, for the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).
The intervention comes after state audits
revealed that multiple administrative branches had systematically ignored a series of similar anti-graft statutory mandates issued over twelve years. According to an official release, the fresh communication consolidates past regulatory oversight guidelines to eliminate compliance gaps. The state administration has directed Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and all District Collectors to ensure absolute compliance within their respective jurisdictions.

Bilingual notice boards carrying the slogan "bribe giving and receiving is an offence" along with the contact details, including the WhatsApp number 94981 80936, of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) are to be displayed across all state government offices for reporting bribery-related complaints. "It has been decided to issue consolidated instructions," the government statement read, highlighting that despite repeated orders issued between 2006 and 2018, several offices and departments had failed to prominently display the mandatory anti-bribery notice boards in public places.
Notably, speaking at a rally in Karur, Vijay had urged people to refuse to pay bribes if anyone demanded them. Reassuring the public, the chief minister said he stood with them and asked them to firmly say "no" when asked for a bribe.
“When someone asks you for a bribe, tell them directly that you won’t give it. I will be with you. Even after that, if someone forces you, tell them, ‘our son, our brother, our Vijay is the one ruling this state.’ Tell them very strongly,” he said at the rally, drawing loud cheers and applause from the audience.
To prevent these orders from remaining purely on paper, the state has activated ground-level monitoring teams. The Inspection Wings and specialised Inspection Cells operating within District Collectorates have been officially deputed to conduct surprise field audits across government installations to verify that the directive is being actively and properly implemented.
This is after the BJP leader Vinoj P Selvam on Tuesday, July 15, shared a video showing the Joint Secretary of the Thavatcha East District, Veera, allegedly accepting a bribe, as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s call against corruption from the Karur rally went viral.
Sharing the alleged bribery video on X, Selvam wrote, “A video has surfaced showing Veera, the Joint Secretary of the Thavatcha East District, accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.30 lakh from a government contractor, which has exposed the true face of Thavatcha."
Apart from the BJP, senior DMK leader T K S Elangovan also accused the TVK government of indulging in corruption. Hinting at internal discord within TVK, Elangovan claimed that a lawyer associated with the party had moved court, alleging that a senior leader and the party’s general secretary had accepted bribes ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 20 lakh in exchange for appointing party lawyers.
“We didn’t make these allegations; a lawyer from their own party went to court. If you ask Vijay about this, he might have an answer," Elangovan said, news agency PTI reported.
