A private school in Hyderabad has terminated a teacher after she allegedly assigned religious homework to Class 2 students, triggering a controversy and protests by the parents of a Hindu student, according to news agency ANI.

Success, The School, in Sayeedabad, issued a termination letter on Thursday to teacher Shaik Aisha Parveen, stating, "Further, you are informed that you are permanently disqualified from applying for employment in the future in the Success Group of Education Institutions."

The controversy began after the parents alleged that their child had been instructed to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha as part of schoolwork.

The parents visited the school and questioned the management, demanding strict action against the authorities and alleging that the instruction was inappropriate.
 
 
 

Earlier in the day, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed on X that the teacher had been removed following his intervention.
 
In a post on X, he wrote: "Success but only partially... This morning, after I exposed the forcible action of a school teacher in Hyderabad to make a Hindu child say Islamic prayers, Kalma, etc, the school has now terminated the teacher."

The school has not publicly commented beyond issuing the termination letter.
