Pune police on Tuesday, July 21,
arrested three men and detained a juvenile on charges of repeatedly sexually assaulting a young woman they had befriended over social media. The alleged crimes occurred at several locations across Pune, including Wagholi, Kharadi and Viman Nagar.
The arrested individuals have been named as Farhan Rizwan Shaikh (20) and Fazal Shaikh (20), both residents of Mundhwa, and Sahil Dindore (20), a resident of Viman Nagar. A minor has also been taken into custody in relation to the case.
Police said the 21-year-old survivor, who hails from Vishrantwadi, first met Farhan while the two were college students in 2024, after which they stayed connected via social media. According to investigators, Farhan allegedly summoned the woman to a private hostel in Wagholi in November 2025, where he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. He is then said to have taken her to other locations in Wagholi, Kharadi and Viman Nagar, where his three accomplices allegedly assaulted her as well.
After these incidents, the woman reportedly cut off contact with Farhan. Police said he then allegedly threatened to leak inappropriate photos of her online and sexually assaulted her again. Having endured significant psychological distress, the woman eventually filed a complaint at the Airport Police Station, which was subsequently transferred to Wagholi Police Station since the alleged crimes fell under its jurisdiction.
Acting on her complaint, Wagholi police have booked all four accused under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with other relevant laws. Police Inspector (Crime) Pallavi Meher is heading the investigation.
