BJP governments to withdraw cases against CJP protesters

New Delhi, July 28: Hours after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) accused the Centre of violating its July 25 agreement on withdrawing police cases against protesters, the BJP governments in Bihar and Assam announced that all such cases would be withdrawn. The two state governments also confirmed that protesters detained before 6 pm on July 26 would be released.

 

 

Earlier in the day, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged a "complete breach" of the understanding reached with the Centre. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, he claimed that "hundreds of students" had been arrested in BJP-ruled states despite the agreement.

 

"We demand that all FIRs against the protesters be immediately withdrawn, students be released, and no fresh FIRs be filed by the Delhi Police, central investigative agencies, or police in BJP-ruled and allied states. If this is not done, we will be forced to resume our protest," Ranka said.

 

 

 

He also demanded that the Centre make public the written agreement on legal cases and disclose the timelines agreed upon for implementing its commitments.

 

The press conference was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal and CJP spokesperson Saurav Das.

 

 

Das said the CJP had anticipated legal action against protesters even before its sit-in at Jantar Mantar concluded on July 25. He said the organisation had approached senior advocate Kapil Sibal to seek legal assistance for protesters facing criminal proceedings across the country.

 

The CJP also announced the formation of a nationwide legal aid cell and launched an online evidence collection platform named SAAKSHI to support those facing legal action.
