Security forces
achieved a significant win against terrorism after thwarting an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Hathlanga sector of Uri, in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, on Tuesday. The foiled attempt was followed by an extensive search operation that yielded further gains, including a substantial recovery of weapons and ammunition.
Officials said Army personnel, working alongside the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies,
spotted suspicious activity and swiftly launched a cordon-and-search mission along the LoC in the area. Upon spotting the approaching security forces, the infiltrators fled back across the LoC, abandoning a large stockpile of weapons in the process.
During the search, troops recovered a backpack containing two AK rifles, two AK magazines, 256 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, a Tokarev/Type-54 pistol with two magazines, five live hand grenades, and five packs of Pakistani-made cigarettes, according to a senior official. The operation concluded without any injuries or damage, and the seized items have been sent for forensic analysis.
An official credited the success to the troops' vigilance and strong coordination between agencies, noting that operations to secure and clear the area remain ongoing.

This development follows a similar operation on Monday, July 6, when the Army acted on specific intelligence to search the Keran sector of Kupwara district. That operation uncovered a terrorist hideout containing five AK-series rifles, nine magazines, one hand grenade, and other substantial war supplies, according to defence sources.
Investigators are now working to trace the origins of the recovered materials and determine whether they connect to broader networks facilitating cross-border infiltration. Officials noted that both incidents point to persistent efforts by militants to smuggle arms and infiltrate through forward sectors along the LoC, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance and patrols in sensitive areas.
