Two Bangladeshis sentenced to 3 years, 8 months’ rigorous imprisonment in Kolhapur

Kolhapur , August 13: A district and sessions court in Kolhapur has sentenced two Bangladeshi nationals to three years and eight months of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each for illegally entering and residing in India without valid travel documents.
The convicts have been identified as Sohel Kalam Mulla alias Mohammad Inamul Fakir (33), a resident of Jikargachha in Bangladesh, and Sumeyya Badshaha Mulla (26), from Bangladesh.
Arrest by Anti-Terrorism Squad
According to the prosecution, the Solapur Anti-Terrorism Squad received information that Bangladeshi nationals were staying at a residence in Koyna Colony in Gandhinagar, Kolhapur.
On January 19, 2023, personnel from the Solapur ATS and Gandhinagar Police detained Sohel Mulla and Sumeyya Mulla. Police alleged that the two had entered India illegally through an unauthorised route without passports or valid travel documents.
A case was registered at Gandhinagar Police Station under the relevant provisions concerning illegal entry and residence in India. Police constable Ashok Pawar had lodged the complaint, while Police Sub-Inspector Vivekanand Ralebhat conducted the investigation. The police later filed a chargesheet before the court.
Eight Witnesses Examined
The case was heard before District and Sessions Judge R.V. Utpat. Additional Public Prosecutor Pratibha J. Jadhav examined eight witnesses during the trial.
After considering the testimonies and documentary evidence presented by the prosecution, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced both to three years and eight months of rigorous imprisonment.
