The allegations have triggered political and social media reactions in the district. The woman's family has also alleged that police initially failed to register a case despite being informed about her disappearance and the allegations.

According to a complaint submitted to the Amethi Superintendent of Police, the woman's husband alleged that his wife was taken away on June 12, 2026, by Tabrez Ahmad, a resident of Newaz Madargarh village under the jurisdiction of Bazar Shukul police station.

The husband alleged that she was taken to Lucknow, where she was allegedly kept in confinement and sexually assaulted. He further claimed that he approached the local police after the incident but that an FIR was not registered immediately.

Her husband further alleged that the accused had manipulated identity documents and claimed that the matter was initially being treated by police as a missing-person case rather than as a criminal complaint.

The family subsequently approached the district police authorities seeking strict legal action against the accused.

Family alleged delay in FIR

The police response indicates that the accused has now been detained and that the woman's complaint is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Similar cases from the past

The latest case has also drawn attention because Amethi has witnessed other complaints in recent months involving allegations of sexual assault and pressure for religious conversion.

In March 2026, police in Bazar Shukul registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act after a minor girl allegedly accused two persons of rape and pressure to convert and marry her. Police arrested two accused in that case.

Another complaint filed in July 2026 involved allegations of abduction, rape and pressure for religious conversion involving a minor girl in the district. Police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation in that case as well.

The earlier cases and the latest allegations have led to renewed attention on complaints involving sexual offences and alleged coercion in the district.
