On August 16, the Ahmedabad Railway Protection Force (RPF)
arrested two individuals identified as Aquib Ansari (24) and Syed Ibrahim (21) for kidnapping two minor girls and allegedly operating a human trafficking network. The police also rescued the girls, aged 15 and 17 respectively, and recovered a fake Aadhaar ID from one of the accused in the name of 'Aryan'.
The girls were rescued as part of "Operation Seva," after RPF Ahmedabad received a tip-off from Kudi Bhagtasni police station in Jodhpur City about the missing minors. Acting on the information, an RPF team searched the Jodhpur–KSR Bengaluru Superfast Express and found one of the girls on board.
Accused caught by Bajrang Dal team and nabbed by Police
As per the initial information, a team of Bajrang Dal learned that two minors were missing and that they were trapped by two Islamists using social media and gaming apps. The Bajrang Dal then informed the police about the missing minors. One of the Dal members, while talking to the media, said, "The two minor girls were brainwashed using Instagram. The accused also held fake Hindu IDs to lure the girls. These Islamist accused planned to sell Hindu girls for Rs 8-10 lakh in Kolkata and Bangladesh."
During initial questioning, the accused is believed to have confessed that they had connected with the girls through social media and online gaming platforms before taking them to Jodhpur railway station, allegedly planning to travel onward to Bengaluru.
As the police saw the accused, one of them tried to escape from the spot but was eventually caught after a short chase. Several videos of the incident are making rounds on social media, in which it is being stated that the accused confessed to the crime, also saying that they planned to sell Hindu girls for Rs 8 lakh or Rs 10 lakh. (Newsbharati could not individually verify this claim, though it can be clearly heard in the videos)
According to police, the accused also deleted communication records from his phone and threw the device out of the moving train to destroy evidence. The phone was later found at Nadiad railway station.
RPF officials further recovered data from the phone and used it to trace the second suspect's mobile number. With help from Jodhpur police, his live location was tracked down, leading to his arrest along with the second minor girl at platform number 1 of Ahmedabad railway station.
During the investigation, police also found photos of the girls' actual Aadhaar cards, stored on the accused's phones. Further details in the case are awaited.
