A Hindu woman has been reported missing from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after her father approached the Civil Lines police alleging that his daughter was taken away by a man identified as Faiz, who is the son of a cleric associated with a mosque near a police outpost in the district court complex.
The woman's family has expressed serious concern over her safety and alleged that she could be subjected to forced religious conversion or harmed. Police have begun investigating the complaint and efforts are underway to trace the woman.
According to her father, the family began searching for her after discovering that she was missing. During their search, one of her friends allegedly told them that Faiz had taken her away.
The family then approached the Civil Lines police station and requested police to trace the woman and bring her back safely.
A case has reportedly been registered at the Civil Lines police station, with police investigating the allegations and working to establish the woman's whereabouts.
Hindu organisation seeks action
After learning about the case, Sachin Sirohi, national president of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Suraksha Sangathan, reportedly reached the Civil Lines police station along with supporters.
Sirohi alleged that incidents involving Hindu women being taken away by men from other communities were increasing in Uttar Pradesh and demanded strict action against the accused.
The organisation also demanded punitive action against the accused's property.
Further details regarding the woman's whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are awaited as the police investigation continues.
Separate Fatehpur case involving madrasa cleric
A separate case has also been reported from Fatehpur, where a madrasa cleric identified as Abdul Samad has been accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl over a period of around one year on the promise of marriage.
According to the report, Samad had arrived in the area around two years earlier and was working as a cleric at a Jama Masjid while also teaching children at a nearby madrasa.
The girl reportedly went missing, following which her family began searching for her. According to the complaint, her relatives allegedly found her with the cleric.
The girl's uncle subsequently approached police, following which an FIR was registered against Abdul Samad.
Police arrested the accused, and he was subsequently sent to jail, according to the report.
In the Meerut case, police are currently investigating the complaint and efforts are underway to trace the missing woman. The family's allegations regarding forced religious conversion and possible harm are part of the complaint and will be investigated by the authorities.
