Assam: Imtiaz Hussain, accused of duping people of crores, arrested in Dibrugarh, details

Police said Hussain allegedly collected money from several people on the pretext of arranging jobs and in some cases, shops.

On Thursday, Dibrugarh Police in Assam arrested Imtiaz Hussain from his residence in the city on charges of duping multiple people of crores of rupees by promising them jobs and shops in exchange for money.

Police said Hussain had barricaded himself inside his house to avoid arrest. A police team, accompanied by a magistrate, reached his residence near the road connecting Chiring Chapori and Amolapatty and had to break open the door to take him into custody.

His wife was also arrested in connection with the case, according to the officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station. Several complaints and cases have reportedly been filed against Hussain in Dibrugarh.

"Imtiaz Hussain and his wife have been arrested in connection with the alleged financial fraud. A warrant had been issued against him, and to evade arrest, he locked himself inside his house. We had to break open the door to arrest him. The investigation is underway," the officer-in-charge said.
 
 
 

He added that police had been tracking Hussain since February, after complaints against him first surfaced. "Everybody knows about him in Dibrugarh. A warrant had been issued against him, but he kept changing his location. Today, we got information about his whereabouts and arrested him, along with his wife," he said.

Police said Hussain allegedly collected money from several people on the pretext of arranging jobs, and in some cases, shops. The total amount allegedly collected and the number of victims are yet to be determined.

Three vehicles were recovered from his garage numbered a Mercedes-Benz (AS 01 TC 2792), a Toyota Innova Crysta (AS 01 EL 1183), and a Hyundai i10 (AS 06 T 7286).
