Religious activists keep on raising their voices, reporting against forceful religious conversion to Christianity, but the missionaries operate way ahead, it seems. In the state of Sikkim, now the evangelical groups and missionaries have launched a 'Christian-only matrimony platform' where converted Christian brides and grooms can register themselves to find a similar potential match for their life.
The event was exposed by a legal rights activist named Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), who stated that a few online matrimony platforms like 'YT Christian Matrimony' appealed to users to find an ideal Sikkim converted Christian bride with a database full of profiles of educated and cultured Sikkim converted Christian brides seeking their perfect match.

"This is how Jesus Corridor washed out the Buddhist identity of Sikkim and created a new Christian Universe after destroying 2,000-year-old Buddhism," it said in a X post sharing a few profiles that showed women specifically mentioning in their profiles that they were looking for someone who shared their 'deep faith in Jesus'.
The YT matrimony website also advertises that the converted Christian community in Sikkim is diverse and vibrant and that it is renowned for its strong faith and rich cultural traditions."YT Matrimony provides a trusted platform for Sikkim Converted Christians seeking their perfect life partner. Discover the rich culture and traditions of the Converted Christians in Sikkim, known for their strong faith and unique customs," it says.
Newsbharti checked some of the profiles, which read, ".. is a kind-hearted individual who is both friendly and God-fearing." Another profile read, "Devoted and spiritually-guided individual with a strong commitment to faith." Another read, "..has completed her Master of Science in Biology and is currently pursuing studies to become a pastor." This showcases how Sikkim people who have been baptised are now being made to believe that being 'God-fearing' or 'studying to be a pastor' marks an important qualification to find a life partner.
There's nothing inherently problematic about a matrimony platform catering to Christians in general. What stands out, though, is the existence of one specifically targeting converted or Baptist Christians, the term "Baptist Christian community" referring to the global network of churches, congregations, and believers who identify with the Baptist tradition. The niche focus on this particular subgroup, rather than Christians broadly, is what merits closer attention.
Baptism stands as one of the key rites tied to 'embracing' Christianity. When someone converts to the faith, it typically marks their formal acceptance of Christian belief and their initiation into the Christian community. Christians view baptism as carrying several layers of meaning. It can represent being washed clean of sin, turning away from past wrongdoing (repentance), and leaving behind one's old way of life to begin afresh in Christ. Beyond this, baptism also signifies becoming part of the broader Christian community, and in many denominations, it's regarded as a 'sacrament, a rite through which God's grace is actively conferred on the believer.'
It is important to note that between 2001 and 2011, the Christian population in Sikkim
increased by 24,407 people, or about 67.6%. Earlier in 2001, it was 36,115. However, by 2011, as per the census, it had increased by 24, 407 to 60,522.
