Imran is police's prime suspect

Police have identified Imran, a gym trainer at the facility Muskan attended, as the main suspect. He fled after the attack and remained untraced as of Thursday (August 27).

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Gupta said police teams were working to locate him and were examining CCTV footage from the area.

Investigators are trying to piece together Muskan's movements before the incident, establish when the suspect arrived at the house and trace his route after the alleged attack.

Friends allege earlier harassment

People close to Muskan have alleged that she had faced harassment from Imran in the past.

Her friend Aman told reporters that Muskan's elder sister, who was in Chandigarh, contacted him after learning about the incident and asked him to reach the house. Aman also claimed that the family had previously spoken to him about Imran harassing Muskan.

Motive yet to be established

Police are also investigating the nature of the relationship between Muskan and Imran and what may have led to the alleged attack.

Reports citing police said the two had known each other for around one-and-a-half years. Investigators are looking into claims that Imran had been pursuing Muskan after she rejected him.

However, police have not officially established this as the motive for the killing.

CCTV, phone and forensic evidence being examined

CCTV footage from around Muskan's building and nearby streets is being examined to establish a clear timeline of the incident. Investigators are looking at footage that could show the suspect's arrival, movements around the house and escape route.

Other evidence collected from the scene and Muskan's phone is also being examined to corroborate witness accounts and establish what happened before the stabbing.
