Three booked after Parel clash following Eid procession, police launch manhunt

Mumbai, August 27 : Mumbai Police have booked three people in connection with a clash that broke out in Parel on Wednesday night in an Eid procession that broke traffic rule. Tension prevailed when two groups were involved in rioting and slogan shouting . Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure, while efforts are underway to identify and trace other people allegedly involved in the incident.

 

 

The Bhoiwada Police have booked Rehan Masood Sayyad (19), Adil Khan Ahmed Khan (19) and Miraj Mohammad Firoz Rais (18). Police said they are also attempting to identify other unidentified persons allegedly involved in the clash and have launched a search operation.

 

According to the police, the exact reason behind the confrontation has not yet been established. Officials said several claims and posts regarding the incident have circulated on social media, but warned that conclusions should not be drawn until the investigation is completed.

 

Preliminary information suggests that members of two groups exchanged slogans, following which a verbal altercation reportedly took place. The situation subsequently escalated into a physical confrontation. Reports of stone pelting and the use of mild police force also emerged from the area.

 

 

 

A case has been registered under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include Section 189(1) for unlawful assembly, Section 189(2) for disobedience of orders by members of such an assembly, Section 189(3) for liability of members for offences committed by the group, Section 191(1) for rioting, Section 191(2) for rioting with a deadly weapon, Section 195(1) for assault or obstruction of a public servant, Section 118(1) relating to voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt, and Section 121(1) concerning voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant. Police have also invoked Sections 137 and 133 of the Maharashtra Police Act, relating to maintaining public order and regulating conduct in public places.

 

 

The accused have additionally been booked for allegedly violating prohibitory orders issued by the Mumbai Police Commissioner concerning unlawful assembly.

 

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Manoj Sharma appealed to residents to remain calm and not believe or circulate rumours. He said senior police officers had been deployed at the spot and the situation was under control.
