Delhi Police Bust Alleged ISI-Backed Espionage Module, Couple Arrested

New Delhi , August 28: The Northern Range of the Delhi Police Special Cell has busted an alleged Pakistan-based espionage module backed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and arrested a Delhi-based couple accused of providing logistical support to Pakistani intelligence operatives, officials said.
The accused have been identified as Md Sahil and his wife Sameera. According to police, the couple allegedly came in contact with Pakistani intelligence handlers through social media and had been assisting the network since 2024.
Investigators alleged that the couple procured Indian SIM cards and sent them to Pakistan through Dubai. These numbers were reportedly used by Pakistani operatives to activate WhatsApp accounts and enter Indian WhatsApp groups, allegedly with the aim of gathering sensitive information.

The investigation began after the Special Cell received information about an alleged Pakistan-based intelligence network operating in the Delhi-NCR region and recruiting local individuals for logistical assistance.

Sahil was arrested first from Sarai Kale Khan. During forensic examination of his mobile phone, investigators allegedly found conversations with Pakistani agents. Police said Sahil came into contact with a Pakistani agent on Instagram in 2024 through Sameera, who later became his wife.
According to investigators, Sahil was allegedly also tasked with recruiting individuals for reconnaissance of cantonment areas in different parts of India and collecting information about Army personnel facing court-martial proceedings before tribunals.
Following his interrogation, Sameera was arrested for her alleged role in supplying Indian SIM cards to Pakistani entities.
The Special Cell is now probing the alleged network's structure, modus operandi and links with local over-ground workers and sleeper cells, including its use of encrypted communication platforms.
