In a significant strike against an inter-state drug trafficking racket, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police apprehended three suspected traffickers from Manipur at Amingaon, on the outskirts of Guwahati, seizing narcotics with an estimated international market value exceeding Rs 12.5 crore.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 50,000 Yaba tablets and roughly 5 kg of methamphetamine, hidden in specially built concealed compartments. Officers also recovered five soap boxes containing heroin weighing approximately 67.5 grams. Assam Police pegged the combined street value of the seized narcotics at around Rs 12.5 crore.
All three accused remain in custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them. Investigators are now working to trace the origin of the consignment, its intended destination, and the broader trafficking network behind the operation.
Acting on precise intelligence, a joint team comprising the STF and Kamrup Police intercepted a Tata Nexon, registration number AS-11-AA-6800, at Amingaon. The vehicle was allegedly ferrying a drug consignment from Kakching in Manipur to a district in Western Assam, routed through Amingaon.
Three men traveling in the vehicle were taken into custody: Kh Tabish (24), who was driving; Tekcham Avinash Singh (41), the co-driver; and Nongmaithem Biswajit (38), a passenger. All three hail from Manipur.
