Alert sounded in J&K's Ramban after SUV jumps police checkpoint, occupants flee, leaving vehicle behind

A tense security situation gripped Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir early Friday morning, August 7, after a Scorpio SUV broke through several checkpoints along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, forcing police to open fire and set off a large-scale search operation.
Officials said the vehicle was headed from Srinagar to Jammu when it reached the Chanderkote checkpoint around 3:30 am, where police signalled it to halt. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and sped toward the Nashri stretch, slipping past the security personnel stationed there.

In a bid to stop the escaping vehicle, police fired three rounds at it, but the SUV managed to get away regardless. Within moments, a coordinated search was launched involving the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the CRPF, and the Army to hunt down the vehicle and its occupant.
Authorities later revealed that the driver ditched the Scorpio near Dalwas and fled on foot before security teams could catch up with him. The abandoned vehicle has since been taken into custody by the local police.
SSP Ramban Arun Gupta confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that more information is expected as it develops. Meanwhile, security forces have stepped up their search efforts in the region, working to track down the missing driver and uncover what prompted the breach.
