A minor girl was abducted and strangled to death after she refused to marry an Islamist in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Police have arrested Ishan Khan and his associate Arwaz Khan in connection with the murder.

Crime against women

The case came to light after the minor's body was found in bushes along the Cancer Pahadiya road under Kampu police station limits. Police said the girl had been missing after leaving from work and that marks were found around her neck. The case was cracked within about 12 hours to the registration of the complaint.

According to police and media reports, Ishan Khan and the minor had been in an alleged relationship for around two years. Her family was aware of the relationship, but the girl had recently begun distancing herself from Ishan. Her family was also considering another marriage proposal for her.

Police suspect that Ishan, angered by her refusal to marry him, planned the murder with Arwaz Khan.

Minor was abducted near KRG College
According to the investigation, the accused conducted reconnaissance around the minor's workplace before carrying out the crime.

The minor worked at a saree shop in the Naya Bazar area. On the night of the incident, she was intercepted near KRG College while returning home.

Police say Ishan and Arwaz forcibly took her into a Baleno car and drove her towards Cancer Pahadiya.
The family had earlier reported her missing after she failed to return home.

Reports said she had spoken to her mother shortly before her phone was switched off, prompting the family to approach Kampu police.

Strangled with her dupatta

Police said that after reaching Cancer Pahadiya, Ishan pressured the minor to marry him. When she refused, an argument followed.

According to the police version reported by local media, Arwaz restrained the girl's hands while Ishan strangled her with her dupatta. The two men then left her body in bushes and fled in the car.

Her body was subsequently discovered in the bushes, with marks around her neck indicating possible strangulation. A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence.

CCTV footage helped police trace the accused

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the area around the girl's workplace. Ishan was seen conducting reconnaissance near the shop.

Police then traced the Baleno car used in the crime.

According to reports, the vehicle's owner told investigators that Ishan had taken the car from him.

Police first detained Arwaz and subsequently arrested Ishan. Investigators said questioning of the two led to the sequence of events being established. The Baleno car has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Police say marriage refusal was the apparent motive

Gwalior SSP Dharmveer Singh said the case was solved within 12 hours and that both accused had been arrested. Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that the minor's refusal to marry Ishan was the apparent motive behind the killing.

The investigation remains underway, with police continuing to examine CCTV footage, forensic evidence and other material connected to the case.
