CHENNAI, Sept 10 : A fresh political confrontation has erupted in Tamil Nadu between DMK president M.K. Stalin and Chief Minister and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay, with Stalin accusing the Chief Minister of turning the Assembly into a platform for political theatrics and publicity.
Stalin also accused Vijay of using social-media “reels” and publicity to divert attention from administrative issues. He alleged that the Chief Minister was running the government “like a cinema shooting” and urged him to focus on governance rather than unnecessary controversies in the Assembly.
The confrontation marks another escalation between the DMK and the ruling TVK, as Vijay's political entry has increasingly brought him into direct conflict with established Dravidian parties. The Assembly exchange has also revived debate over political decorum, the use of historical grievances in contemporary politics and the growing influence of cinema-style political communication in Tamil Nadu.
The latest clash followed Vijay's remarks during the Assembly session on the Emergency-era C. A hand gesture made by Vijay while referring to MISA was widely interpreted as a reference to the injury suffered by Stalin during his detention in 1976. Vijay later clarified that the gesture was not intentional.

Stalin responded on Thursday through a video message, addressing Vijay as “Thambi Vijay” and recounting his arrest and alleged custodial torture during the Emergency. He said the DMK's opposition to the Emergency and his personal experience in detention were matters of historical record that could not be changed.
