Dindori Court Convicts Seven in Religious Conversion Case

Dindori, June 12 : A Dindori Sessions Court in Madhya Pradesh has convicted seven people in a 2024 religious conversion case linked to a gathering at a house in Pipariya village. The court found that the accused had attempted to persuade people to leave Hindu dharma and accept Christianity by allegedly offering money and promising relief from poverty, suffering and illness.
Seven accused convicted
The convicted persons have been identified as Santosh Paraste, Sanjay Markam, Amit Kumar, Pramod, Karan Singh Maravi, Chhot Singh Dhurve and Jeet Singh.
The first six accused are residents of Diwari village, while Jeet Singh is a resident of Pipariya.
According to the case, the accused had gathered at the house of Suday Singh Maravi in Pipariya village on April 27, 2024, where they were allegedly conducting Christian religious activities and attempting to influence people to adopt Christianity.
The case was registered after Angad Singh Maravi submitted a written complaint regarding activities at the house of his uncle's son, Suday Maravi.

According to the complaint and statements presented before the court, Karan Singh Maravi and the other accused had been visiting Sunday's house for several days before the incident. They allegedly asked him to pray to Jesus and accept Christianity, claiming that he would receive money and that his poverty and difficulties would end.
On April 27, Angad Singh Maravi reportedly reached Sunday's house along with his father, uncle and another relative after learning about the gathering. When they objected to the activities, the village sarpanch and other people were called to the spot.

Witnesses told the court that the gathering involved attempts to persuade people to abandon Hindu dharma. The accused allegedly described Christianity as the best religion and claimed that those who followed it would be protected from disease and suffering.
The witnesses further alleged that the accused made statements against Hindu religious beliefs and deities and asked those present to stop worshipping Hindu gods and accept Jesus instead.
The case was initially registered as FIR No. 210/2024 at Samanapur police station under Section 153A read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 295A read with Section 34 of the IPC, and Sections 3 and 5 of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021.
