Gurugram biker crash: Police launch suo motu probe after viral video

Gurugram, Sep 15 : Gurugram Police have launched a suo motu enquiry after a woman biker was allegedly hit by a car on Golf Course Road on Sunday, Sep 13. The incident, captured on an action camera mounted on her motorcycle, shows the rider being thrown off the bike as it slides several metres along the road. The car allegedly fled the scene.

 

 

Gurugram East DCP Sandeep Kumar said “that police were analysing the video and tracing both the accused and the rider.

 

“We are analysing the video and tracing both the accused and the creator/victim. We have not received any formal complaint from the creator, but we are launching a suo motu enquiry and will book a case based on the findings,” he said.

 

Police have since taken suo motu cognisance of the video and registered an FIR at Sector 56 police station. Three teams have been deployed, and raids are being conducted at the accused’s possible hideouts. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused at the earliest.

 

The rider, who identifies herself as Sia and runs the Instagram page ‘rebelwheels_sia_’, alleged that the occupants of a white car had been chasing her while she was riding her Aprilia RS 457 with members of her biking group.

 

According to her video statement, the car repeatedly came close to her motorcycle, while its occupants behaved aggressively and asked her to stop. She also alleged that the men appeared to be drunk.

 

 

 

Sia said she continued riding to prevent the car from blocking her path. A friend riding behind her reportedly tried to shield her and stop the vehicle from coming alongside her. She alleged that the driver then attempted to cut in front of her motorcycle before hitting it horizontally. The collision threw her off the bike and sent the motorcycle sliding several metres before it came to a halt. The car allegedly sped away without stopping.

 

After the collision, one of Sia’s friends reportedly chased the car and confronted the driver when it stopped at a traffic signal. The friend told the driver that he had caused the crash, but the driver allegedly denied responsibility and drove away. The video identifies the vehicle by registration number HR30Y4949.

 

 

Meanwhile, Manish, the registered owner of the car, said that a friend had borrowed the vehicle two days earlier. He said he learnt about the crash only on Monday morning, September 14. Speaking to the media, Manish said he was at work when his friend, from Paliwal in Haryana, took the car after telling him that he needed to go somewhere.

 

The footage has since gone viral, with several social media users tagging the Gurugram Police, Gurugram Traffic Police and Haryana Police, seeking action against the driver Sia urged the police to take action, alleging that the incident endangered her life and that the driver fled after the crash.

 

“I have nothing to say, but today I felt unsafe on Gurugram roads. People like these aren’t afraid of hitting people and running away,” she said.
