Ujjain , September 16: A viral social media trend featuring 1980s-style photographs has reportedly helped police trace a woman accused of stealing a gold necklace from a jewellery shop in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain nearly 45 years ago.

The case came to light after the woman reportedly shared an AI-generated photograph of herself as part of the ongoing 80s nostalgia trend on social media. The photograph was later seen by the jewellery shop owner, who claimed to recognise her as the woman involved in the theft decades ago.
 
According to reports, the woman had allegedly stolen a gold necklace from the shop around 45 years ago. Despite an investigation at the time, police could not trace her. She later reportedly changed her name and moved to another place, where she lived under a different identity for several decades.
 
 
 
The old case remained unresolved until the woman’s recent social media post brought her back to the attention of the shop owner. After recognising her from the photograph, the shop owner reportedly approached the police and provided information about her identity.
 
Police subsequently began investigating the case and questioned the woman. During questioning, she reportedly admitted to her involvement in the theft.
