Delhi Court Directs FIR Against Journalist Karishma Aziz Over Alleged Derogatory Social Media Posts

New Delhi, September 18: A Delhi court on Thursday (Sept 17) directed the Cyber Police Station, New Delhi, to register an FIR against journalist Karishma Aziz over alleged derogatory posts and videos on social media platform X targeting Hindu religious figures, historical personalities and India.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Mridul Gupta of the Patiala House (District) Court passed the order on a complaint filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva. The court said that the complaint and material placed on record disclosed the commission of cognizable offences that required investigation.
The court clarified that it was not expressing any opinion on the merits of the allegations at this stage. It directed the SHO of Cyber Police Station, New Delhi, to register an FIR based on the complaint and conduct the investigation according to law. The police have also been directed to submit a compliance report within one week.
'Karishma Aziz alias Karishma Kureshi' has been involved in such behavior for a long time. In the name of journalism, mocking Hindu deities, their traditions, culture and making offensive remarks has become her profession.

According to the complaint, Aziz allegedly posted a series of comments and videos on X that insulted Hindu religious beliefs and figures, distorted historical narratives and promoted communal disharmony and anti-India sentiment.
Sachdeva alleged that she came across a post dated February 9, 2025, which allegedly mocked the physical disability of a Hindu saint. A February 13 post allegedly contained remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The complaint further referred to a February 19 video, which allegedly mocked Hindu warriors, kings and revolutionaries. Another video posted on February 20 was alleged to glorify Mughal ruler Aurangzeb while denigrating Hindu icons and their legacy.

Posts dated February 23 and 26 were also cited, with allegations of derogatory remarks against Hinduism, historical figures and freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.
