NIA Court Sentences Nine to Life Imprisonment in 2019 Human Trafficking Case

Hyderabad, Sep 18 : A special NIA court in Hyderabad has sentenced nine people to life imprisonment in a 2019 human trafficking case involving Bangladeshi women, officials said on Friday (Sep 18).

The court pronounced the sentence on Thursday (Sep17) and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.37 lakh on the convicts. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convicts will face an additional three months of simple imprisonment, officials said.
 
Of the nine convicts, eight are Bangladeshi nationals, while one is an Indian national. The accused were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from different locations, including West Bengal and Telangana, during 2019 and 2020 as part of the investigation.
 
 
 
The accused have been identified as Ruhul Amin Dhali, Mohd Yousuf Khan alias Md Imran, Bithi Begum alias Khadija Shaik, Imamul Ghazi alias Mohd Rana Hussain, Mohammed Al Mamun, Sojib Shaik, Suresh Kumar Das alias Sagor, Mohd Abdulla Munshi alias Abdul Sarkar and Mohd Ayub Shaik.
 
The accused were prosecuted under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
 
The case involved an alleged human trafficking network dealing with Bangladeshi women. The NIA investigation examined the role of the accused and collected evidence regarding their alleged involvement in the trafficking activities.

The court considered the evidence presented during the trial before convicting and sentencing the nine accused. The life imprisonment sentences and fines were imposed after the conclusion of the proceedings.
The case also highlights the cross-border nature of human trafficking networks, which can involve the illegal movement and exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
 
With Thursday's order, all nine convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment, along with the financial penalty imposed by the court. The accused may avail themselves of legal remedies available under law.
