NIA files chargesheet against nine in online radicalisation case

New Delhi, Sep 19: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday (Sept 18) filed a chargesheet against nine accused in connection with an online radicalisation case involving alleged links to the banned terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS).

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Rehmatullah Shariff, Mohammed Danish, Mirza Sohail Baig, Lucky Ahmad, Jishan Abdul Majid, Mir Ashif Ali, Abdul Salaam, Sharuk Khan and Shaikh Faiz ur Rehman.
 
According to the NIA, its investigation found that the accused allegedly motivated and radicalised vulnerable youth to join violent terrorist activities. They also allegedly planned and prepared for making explosives and undergoing weapons training.
 
 
The case was initially registered on March 26 this year at Vijayawada II Town Police Station under the NTR Commissionerate.
 
The NIA said that 11 accused have been arrested so far, while a minor has also been detained in connection with the case.

According to the agency, the investigation revealed that the accused were members or supporters of the proscribed terrorist organisation IS and had allegedly entered into a wider conspiracy to support its activities.
The accused allegedly used social media platforms, including Instagram, to spread the organisation’s ideology and radicalise individuals.
 
The NIA said the larger conspiracy was aimed at establishing a caliphate in India through violent jihad and disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
 
The agency said its investigation into the case is continuing. Further investigation against the remaining accused and other suspects is currently underway.
