Karam festival celebrated across Jharkhand with focus on Nature and Tribal Culture

Karam festival, a major celebration of Jharkhand’s tribal culture, nature worship and the bond between brothers and sisters, is being observed across the state with traditional fervour and enthusiasm.
Special cultural and state-level programmes have been organised across Jharkhand to mark the occasion. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar attended a Karam festival programme in Bero, Ranchi, on the eve of the festival as the chief guest and extended his greetings to the people. He also highlighted the importance of protecting nature.
Cultural Programmes Across Ranchi
A seminar-cum-cultural programme was organised at Audrey House in Ranchi on Monday( 21 Sept) , featuring traditional Karam songs accompanied by drums, nagadas and mandar.

Another programme was held at Deekshant Mandap in Morabadi, where a tribal fashion show was among the main attractions.
Karam festival is regarded as a celebration of nature, crop protection and sibling bonds. On this occasion, women traditionally observe a Nirjala fast and pray for the well-being and long life of their brothers.

In the evening, a sacred branch of the Karam tree is installed at the akhara. The ritual is followed by community dances and traditional songs that continue through the night.
In Ranchi and other parts of Jharkhand, authorities have made arrangements for cleanliness, lighting, drinking water and other essential facilities at Karam worship sites and akharas.
Administrative officials have also reviewed preparations and participated in various festival programmes.

In a social media post, she said the festival reflects gratitude towards nature, devotion to duty and the spirit of brotherhood. She described Karam Puja as a vibrant expression of tribal culture and its traditional values.

The President also said the festival inspires people to protect nature and live in harmony with it. She wished that the occasion would bring happiness and prosperity to everyone.
