‘Antyodaya’ wonders: J&K youth earlier surrendered to addiction revived due to CHAARAH SAAZ

Jammu, Sep 24: Another noteworthy story of the ‘Antyodaya’ model of governance comes from Jammu Kashmir and is much different from the earlier ones. Sajjad’s life has completely transformed his life after overcoming a serious drug addiction.
Sajjad, 25, graduate and talented cricket player from the J&K’s Budgam district, was majorly affected by drug addiction, causing over-dependence on drugs and had also stopped him from playing cricket, as it had triggered deep sadness, heavy financial issues, and social worry for his family. However, due to Sajjad’s will to change his life, support his family, and return to the cricket field his life could really transform. ‘CHAARAH SAAZ’, a District De-Addiction Centre supported by the government's National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), proved to be a major turning point here.

The centre gave him complete and free medical care. He received safe medical treatment, regular doctor checkups, and counseling for both himself and his family. To help him heal completely, the centre also gave him healthy food, yoga and fitness sessions, computer training, and special support to help him start playing sports again. Sajjad’s physical and mental strength was thus eventually revived, allowing him to return back to routine life and also to his favorite game, cricket.
Today, the transformation has resulted in him working actively as a campaigner for the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’, a major movement to keep the country free from drugs. Sajjad is not alone; many individuals who were addicted across the country benefit from government schemes like the NAPDDR.

‘Antyodaya’ works in a very different manner in the historically radicalized state of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly, the youth. The political history of the state, unfortunately, had pushed the radicalized youth into the marginalized category in the society, dealing with serious problems like drug addiction.
