“Muslims chopped my son like a vegetable”: Fear grips Maihar village after tribal man’s murder, 3 arrested
A 35-year-old Adivasi man, Bhaiyalal Kol, was found dead in a well in Bigaudi village of Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, after allegedly being assaulted during a drinking-related dispute. Police arrested Afsar Khan, Ismail alias Pappu Khan and Ajmer Khan in connection with the murder.

Fear has gripped Bigaudi village in Maihar district after the murder of Bhaiyalal alias Bhaiyan Kol, an Adivasi man whose body was recovered from a well on the night of September 16.
The case has left residents worried about their safety, with some Hindu families reportedly saying they want to leave the village.

Police have arrested three men in connection with the murder, Afsar Khan (35), Ismail alias Pappu Khan (49), and Ajmer Khan (35), all residents of nearby Badarkha village.
According to police and local reports, Bhaiyalal had gone out on the evening of September 16. He was later seen with the three accused near a well. A dispute reportedly broke out while the men were drinking.
Police suspect that Bhaiyalal was assaulted and strangled before his body was thrown into the well.
An FIR has been registered at Tala police station under provisions relating to murder and common intention. The SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has also been invoked as the deceased belonged to the Kol tribal community.

Shiv Narayan Tiwari was killed in 2025
In July 2025, Shiv Narayan Tiwari, a resident of Bigaudi, was allegedly stabbed in the neck during a drinking session at his home. He later died while being taken for treatment in Rewa.
Police had named Sahil Khan as the accused in that case.
The murder had triggered anger among villagers. A Hindu mahapanchayat was held in the area in August 2025, demanding action in the case and compensation for the victim's family. Tension later escalated and a structure associated with the accused was set on fire.
The latest murder has brought the earlier case back into public discussion, particularly because both incidents occurred in the same village and involved accused persons from the neighbouring area.
Police assure villagers of security
Following the latest killing, Maihar Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Pratap Singh visited Bigaudi on September 22.
The SP reportedly assured villagers that there was no need for them to leave their homes and said adequate police deployment had been made to maintain law and order.
The police investigation is continuing to establish the exact sequence of events and the motive behind Bhaiyalal's murder.
Bigaudi is a small village, and the two killings within a little over a year have heightened anxiety among residents. For families already worried about their safety, the latest incident has revived memories of the 2025 murder and the tension that followed.
