MAIHAR, MADHYA PRADESH — Deep-seated fear and panic have gripped the tribal-populated village of Bigaudi in the Maihar district, following the brutal lynching of a Hindu tribal man, Bhaiyalal Kol. In response to growing security concerns and alleged harassment, local families have painted chilling “घर बिकाऊ है” (House for Sale) signs outside their homes, threatening a mass exodus.

Villagers note that the current panic is compounded by memories of a prior tragedy in the same locality, referencing the death of another local resident, Shivnarayan, under distressing circumstances a year earlier.
Citing continuous harassment and a hostile environment, several families have expressed a complete lack of safety, prompting them to put up warning signs on their walls. The protest highlights deep community anxiety over law and order, as local residents demand stricter administrative measures and accountability.
Maihar Superintendent of Police Avadhesh Pratap Singh directed police units to step up patrols and deployed additional security forces to Bigaudi to restore calm. Senior officials visited the village to engage directly with residents, assuring them that law and order would be strictly maintained and urging families not to give in to panic or rumors.
