Seva First Innovation Challenge: How Young Indians can turn Local Problems into Real Solutions
The challenge has been divided into three levels based on the participants" educational background and technical capabilities.

The Union Education Ministry is launching the Seva First Innovation Challenge (SFIC) to encourage young people to identify problems around them and develop practical solutions that can be tested, improved and eventually implemented.
Technical Level:
Open Level:
One of the important features of SFIC is that participants will receive support beyond the idea stage. Selected innovators will have access to academic and industry mentors, laboratories, fabrication facilities and testing support.
Registration for the Seva First Innovation Challenge will be open from September 25 to October 24, 2026.
The challenge aims to promote a culture of community-rooted innovation, where young people do not simply identify problems but work towards building solutions for them. Through mentorship, testing, funding and possible institutional support, the initiative seeks to connect student innovation with practical implementation and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Union Minister for Education Shri Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate the initiative at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. The challenge will bring together students and young innovators from schools, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics, colleges and universities.
The initiative will cover five states and three Union Territories: Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
What is the Seva First Innovation Challenge?
The SFIC is designed around a simple idea young people can identify problems in their own communities and become part of developing solutions for them.
Instead of limiting innovation to laboratories or large institutions, the challenge encourages participants to look at everyday issues in their surroundings. These could include problems related to sustainability, farming, healthcare, education, skills or security.
Participants will be encouraged to move from identifying a problem to developing an idea, building a solution and exploring its implementation.
Three Levels of Participation

Junior Level:
Students from Classes 6 to 12 can participate at this level. They will identify local problems and develop simple working solutions. They can also present well-reasoned ideas related to public services and governance.
Students from ITIs and polytechnics will focus on practical and hands-on solutions. Their projects can involve engineering, fabrication, electronics and process improvements.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as research scholars will participate at this level. They will be expected to demonstrate prototypes or pilot projects and present a credible pathway through which their innovations could be deployed.
Five National Themes
The challenge will focus on five themes connected to major national priorities:
- Clean and Sustainable Bharat
- Prosperous Farmers, Prosperous Bharat
- Healthy and Inclusive Bharat
- Educated and Skilled Bharat
- Secure Bharat
These themes give participants a broad area to work in while allowing them to focus on specific problems they observe in their communities.
From Idea to Implementation
They may also receive incubation assistance, seed and pilot funding, field-testing opportunities and guidance on intellectual property protection.
Promising solutions could be connected with Union and State government ministries, urban and rural local bodies, public sector undertakings and private industry. This could provide an opportunity for useful innovations to move from student projects towards real-world adoption.
Registration and National Finale
The initiative will culminate in a National Finale in New Delhi from December 10 to 17, 2026, where selected innovations will be presented.
Who Is Organising the Challenge?
The SFIC is being organised jointly by the Union Education Ministry, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grants Commission (UGC). IISc Bengaluru will serve as the nodal institute for the initiative.
