Political differences are totally normal in a democracy. But let us be real. This rule only ever applies when it suits the liberals and the comrades. They preach about tolerance and freedom all day long, but they are deeply selective. They only want their own ideology to survive, and they will not let any other thought flourish on campus. The moment someone else tries to speak up or hold an event, these people throw a fit, create a massive ruckus, and shut it down. This is their pattern.
Just days after the trouble at
Jadavpur University, a similar episode of violence was reported at West Bengal’s Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. The controversy erupted after students disrupted an event organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, despite the programme having received prior permission.
During the ABGP event, students with a specific political mindset created a huge ruckus. They shouted slogans like "Go RSS," tore down a poster of Swami Vivekananda, and vandalized a poster of Bharat Mata. Soon, violence erupted on the campus as tensions boiled over between the protesting students and the event organizers. Soon after, the Kolkata Police teams arrived at the spot and initiated action to restore normalcy. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
A video of the students chanting provocative slogans and vandalizing the photos has now gone viral on social media.
What is more shocking right after creating chaos, disrupting a lawful meeting, and showing open disrespect to revered national symbols, these very same student groups started playing the victim card. They ran to social media and cameras to cry foul, portraying themselves as the aggrieved party while conveniently hiding the fact that they initiated the aggression by storming the venue and tearing down posters. It is the same old playbook: trigger a violent confrontation, disrespect India's civilizational icons, and then weep about safety the moment people call them out on their antics.
True to form, no sooner had the smoke cleared than sections of the self-proclaimed liberal establishment and left-leaning media jumped into action to shield the student agitators.
Figures like filmmaker Anurag Kashyap weighed in directly, sharing the student union's statements on social media and using the campus clash to launch political attacks. They spun the confrontation as an assault on campus autonomy while completely glossing over the targeted vandalism of Swami Vivekananda and Bharat Mata. Instead of holding the rule-breakers accountable for storming a legally permitted event, these ecosystem apologists ran posts and commentary painting the disruptors as brave defenders of freedom, proving once again that for this lobby, lawbreaking is excused as long as it wears the right ideological colors.
It should be highlighted that all of this happened even though the ABGP went through the proper channels. They took official permission from the institution and paid the required amount. Everything was completely legal and authorized. But what is the excuse from the student organization?
In a statement issued on 27th September evening, the SRFTI Student Union issued a statement, saying that they were not informed about permission being granted to the ABGP for conducting a programme at the Main Theatre auditorium.
They claimed they were kept in the dark. They whined that the institute and the organizers did not inform them beforehand, hiding behind the old excuse that "no political events should be allowed on campus."
What a convenient excuse! Why this Selective preference? When communist-style events, film screenings, or cultural programs happen on campus under the guise of art and expression, it is celebrated. But the moment another ideological group tries to hold an event, all hell breaks loose. Why this blatant hypocrisy?
If they claim they have the right to protest what goes on in their college, then other organizations have the exact same fundamental freedom to organize their own events. When you use force and thuggery to stop that from happening, you are actively blocking any other ideology from breathing or flourishing in your institution.
