Playing the Congress’ old book of “divide and rule,” Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has now taken the politics of division a step further. While using the same“Aryan-Dravidian theory,” Revanth Reddy claimed that the Congress has remained successful in the South but struggled in the northern states because, in his words, “the BJP stole Lord Ram, who is revered in the North, while Shiva is worshipped in the southern states.”
Speaking at a conclave in New Delhi on Monday, 28 September 2026, Reddy was asked why the Congress has been able to form governments in several southern states while struggling to establish a similar presence in the north.
Responding to the question, Reddy attributed the difference to what he described as a divide between Dravidians and Aryans and between devotees of Lord Shiva and Lord Ram.“It is simple. We are Dravidians and Aryans. There are devotees of Lord Shiva and Lord Ram.”

He questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other BJP leaders frequently use the slogan “Jai Shri Ram” but do not similarly use “Har Har Mahadev” on public platforms.“Why don’t they say ‘Har Har Mahadev’? Prime Minister Modi and BJP leaders are always seen saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Have you ever seen them say ‘Har Har Mahadev’ on a public platform?” Reddy asked.
