Citizen Beaten Up for Opposing DJ Noise During Ganeshotsav in Pune

Pune,September 03 : Social activist and Pune resident Vidyanand Bapat, who had emerged as a voice against the use of DJs and high-decibel loudspeakers during Ganeshotsav, was allegedly assaulted on Thursday while speaking to the media on Tilak Road.
The incident reportedly took place when Bapat was interacting with citizens and giving his views on noise pollution. A video of the assault has surfaced, showing a man approaching Bapat and allegedly attacking him. Bapat later approached the police and demanded action against those responsible.

Bapat had recently opposed DJs and loudspeakers during Ganeshotsav at a Pune Municipal Corporation meeting, arguing that public celebrations should not become a source of excessive noise and inconvenience for residents. His remarks triggered a heated confrontation with some Ganesh mandal workers, after which the issue gained widespread attention on social media.
Bapat has repeatedly clarified that he is not opposed to Ganeshotsav or the festival’s traditions, but objects to excessive noise and high-decibel sound systems. Citizens had also organised a protest against noise pollution in Pune, stressing that their campaign was againstnoise pollution in Pune, stressing that their campaign was against excessive sound and not against any religion or festival.
