Budgam, Sep 30: In major success to the security forces, as the main perpetrator of the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, identified as Mohammad Asif has been successfully neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district.
He was killed as a part of the joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF under Operation Korag in Budga. Furthermore, “war-like” stores were also uncovered during the operation, which continues to be in progress.
Moosa was wanted due to his involvement in attacks on both sides of the Pir Panjal range. He had also managed to elude a security operation in the Yousmarg hills earlier on 5th September.

The killing of Moosa was confirmed by the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, which said in a statement: “During the search early morning in General Area Palmaidan, body of Pak-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, identified as Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa, recovered along with war-like stores.”

His involvement in the Pahalgam attack in proof of Pakistan’s state-sponsored cross-border terrorism exposed once again. His SSG background was reportedly revealed during the interrogation of one of the 14 Kashmiri OGWs investigated in connection with the Pahalgam attack. The OGWs were suspected of providing logistics and facilitating reconnaissance for Pakistani terrorists.
He was reportedly believed to have infiltrated India in September 2023, with his area of operation primarily around Budgam and the Srinagar region. He was the main behind many attacks at Jammu Kashmir from Reasi to Pahalgam.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier chargesheeted seven accused in the Pahalgam terror attack case, including Pakistan-based LeT and its alias, The Resistance Front (TRF), both of which are proscribed terrorist organisations.
The killing of Moosa is a significant development in ongoing counter-terrorism operations against the LeT in central Kashmir. Security forces are continuing search operations in the area.
