Tirupattur , September 4 : A 22-year-old biryani cook, identified as Raheem, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly marrying a 16-year-old girl in Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, the girl’s parents had lodged a missing person complaint at the Tirupattur Town Police Station around a month ago after she went missing.
During the course of the investigation, police reportedly found that the minor girl was in a relationship with Raheem. The investigation further revealed that the two had allegedly married and gone into hiding.
Following a search operation, police traced the couple and took Raheem into custody. He was subsequently produced before the Tirupattur court, which remanded him to judicial custody. He was later lodged in Vellore Central Jail.

Police have registered the case under the relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, which provides legal protection to children from sexual offences.
Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged relationship and marriage is underway.
