UP: Minor Hindu girl abducted & raped while going to mandir on Janmashtami; Sameer, Salman and Waleen held in police encounter

According to police, the rape accused opened fire when officers tried to stop them. Police said they returned fire in self-defence, during which both Waleen and Salman suffered bullet injuries.

The incident took place on the night of September 4, when the minor girl had stepped out of her home to visit a mandir during Janmashtami celebrations.
 
According to her family and the police account, the girl was intercepted and abducted while she was on her way to the temple. Police identified the accused as Sameer, Waleen and Salman.

The girl was taken to a room in a nearby house, where she was sexually assaulted. Police arrested Sameer soon after the complaint was received, while teams were sent out to search for Waleen and Salman.
 
 
 
The victim has been described as 14 in one police account and 15 in another. As she is a minor, the case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
 
Waleen and Salman arrested after police encounter
 
The search for Waleen and Salman continued for two days. On September 6, police teams located the two men in the forest area near Reta Nangla village under Chhapaar police station.
 
According to police, the accused opened fire when officers tried to stop them. Police said they returned fire in self-defence, during which both Waleen and Salman suffered bullet injuries.
 
 
The two men were subsequently arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
 
Police said they recovered two illegal .315-bore country-made pistols, two live cartridges and two spent cartridges from the accused.
 
Sameer was arrested on the same day
 
Police said Sameer, who is alleged to be the main accused in the case, was arrested on September 4, shortly after the incident was reported.
 
According to one police version, Sameer raped the girl after she was taken to a room.
 
Another account, based on the family’s complaint and statements, says the girl had gone to meet Sameer and was abducted and assaulted by him with the help of Waleen and Salman.
 
Police are now investigating the individual roles of all three accused.
 
Case registered under POCSO and BNS
 
A case has been registered against Sameer, Waleen and Salman under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
 
Investigators are examining statements, medical evidence and other material collected during the investigation to establish what happened and determine the role of each accused.
 
With Sameer already arrested and Waleen and Salman now in custody following the encounter, police are continuing their investigation into the case.
 
Waleen and Salman are undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the encounter. Further legal proceedings will follow as the investigation progresses.
