Missing 15-Year-Old Girl Rescued From Haryana, 26-Year-Old Man Held

Guntur , September 7 : Andhra Pradesh Police have rescued a 15-year-old Class 10 student from Guntur who had been missing for nearly three months. Police detained 26-year-old Shaik Jaan Saida alias Rabbani, a resident of Bapatla, from a hotel in Karnal, Haryana.

 

 

According to Guntur Police, Saida allegedly befriended the minor through a social media app and persuaded her to leave home. The girl went missing on June 9 after returning from tuition. Police said she had taken around ₹1.5 lakh in cash and nearly 200 grams of gold with her.

 

Her father filed a complaint at Pattabhipuram Police Station on June 10. After the initial search failed, he approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court through a habeas corpus petition.

 

 

The High Court later questioned the Guntur Police over their failure to trace the girl and directed the DGP to produce her before the Court. Following the Court's intervention, Guntur Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

 

The SIT tracked Saida's movements across several states. Police said he first took the girl to Nellore, then moved to Hyderabad, Chennai, Coimbatore and Palakkad, before reaching Haryana. Police alleged that Saida sold the gold over the following months to fund his lifestyle.

 

 

 

A major breakthrough came when the girl's parents received a missed call from her through a social media messaging app. Police used the information to track her location to a hotel in Karnal, where she was rescued.

 

Guntur SP K. Supraja said police teams had travelled across at least four states before locating the girl and apprehending Saida.

 

Police have also alleged that Saida's mother and sister were involved and forced the minor into sexual activities with him. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act.
