Swami Vivekananda statue to be erected at Thiruvananthapuram

undefinedThiruvnanthpuram, August 27: To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary year of Swami Vivekananda and also the his visit to this city 120 years ago, Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation has decided to erect a life-size bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda.

The coprporation has approved the proposal of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari and Sri Ramakrishna Mutt, Thiruvananthapuram to install a life-size bronze statue of Swami ji at Kowdiar Palace Park.

A committee of very eminent citizens of Thiruvananthapuram, with Mayor as Chairperson and His Highness Utradam Thirunal Marthandavarma as Chief Patron, has been constituted for this purpose.

The foundation stone of the statue was laid at a public function by Hansraj Bharadwaj, Governor of Kerala, on 29/10/2012.

Vice-President of India Hameed Ansari has agreed to unveil the statue on 11th September 2013, the day on which Swami ji delivered the epoch making speech at the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago.
