Agencies    31-Dec-2014

New Delhi, December 31 : Government has sanctioned over 568 crore rupees for the next three years to provide Soil Health Cards to 14 crore, 50 lakh farmers. The Ministry has taken several steps during the past seven months to lessen distance between lab to land. Imbalanced use of fertilisers, low addition of organic matter and non-replacement of nutrients in the soil over the years have led to deterioration in soil health.

Soil health needs to be assessed at regular intervals to ensure that farmers apply the required nutrients. Government is therefore providing farmers with Soil Health Cards. Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said that the initiative will improve productivity through judicious use of fertilizers and water. States have also been requested to set up Kisan Mandis to help farmers get fair price for their produce.
