Sex ratio improves in Haryana after launch of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’

Chandigarh, May 28: The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme launched to save and educate girl child from Panipat in Haryana by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 22nd of January is bearing fruit.

The number of females against 1000 males has now touched the figure of 900 in Panipat, which were 853 in 2013. The sex ratio in other districts in the state including Jind, Rohtak, Sonipat and Panipat has also improved considerably.

Chief Minister has honored the Deputy Commissioners of Panipat, Rohtak, Jind and Sonipat districts for considerable increase in number of females.

The Sukanya Samridhi Yojana, a scheme launched at Panipat to financially empower girl child and schemes like "Aapki Beti Hamari Beti", Rs 100 crore Haryana Kanya Kosh and "Haryana Kuposhan Mission" launched by the state government on women International Day.

Such state government campaigns played a vital role to make the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign a success in the Haryana. The postal department has opened around 1.5 lakh Kanya Samridhi Yojna accounts in Haryana.

The state government is working effortlessly to boost the people through awareness programmes, financial help and conducting regular checks on ultrasound centres under PNDT Act.

In Haryana Kanya Kosh, Chief Minister Manohar Lal has given Rs 1 lakh from his monthly pay and 51 lakh from discretionary fund and Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain also contributed Rs 5 lakh.

The gesture has conveyed a positive message to the people. Chief Minister has also raised the amount of various awards given to women for outstanding performance in different fields.

The award money given under Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Purskaar has been raised from one lakh to 1.5 lakh and for kalpana Chawla Shourya purskaar from 51 thousand to one lakh. The girls born after January 22 have been given cheques of Rs 51,000 each under Aapki Beti Hamari Beti scheme.

The social organisations, village panchayats and moreover Jat organisations responding to Prime minister`s appeal are also playing a pro-active role in saving the girl child.
