Communal tension erupts in Lucknow

Lucknow, May 30: Communal tension erupted in Bazaarkhala and Aishbagh areas of Lucknow last night after clash between members of two communities in Bazaarkhala and Aishbagh areas over use of loudspeaker.The groups fired at each other and resorted to stone pelting, which left several injured. Heavy police has been deployed in the area while senior officers of district and police administration are monitoring the situation.


According to reports, a minor argument on use of loudspeaker at a function between two individuals of different communities snowballed into a clash. Miscreants also pelted stones at the police as well. Curfew like situation prevailed as all shops were closed in the area and people were asked to stay indoors by the police. DIG, Lucknow range R K Chaturvedi, who was on the spot, said that the situation was under control. The police are talking to both the sides to resolve the issue, he added.

Religious heads of the sides have also been called to pacify members of their respective communities, he said. He also appealed to people not to spread or pay attention at rumours of large scale violence circulated on social media. Meanwhile a report from Etah district said that two people were injured in a group clash in Awagarh area of the district late last night. The clash took place when dispute between two shopkeepers escalated. However, police intervened and controlled the situation.
